
Mavericks Announce New Affiliation

High Desert Mavericks News Release
The High Desert Mavericks announced today that they have signed a player development contract with the Kansas City Royals for the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
"When we looked at major league clubs for affiliation we evaluated all 30 Major League at the Long-A level and it was clear who the had the best track record....the Kansas City Royals. " said Mavericks managing partner Bobby Brett. "We were lucky that the Royals were available and we are thrilled to their partner."
High Desert will be replacing the Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Carolina League as the Royals Advanced-A affiliate. While affiliated with the Royals (a 12-year span), Wilmington had a .524 winning percentage, giving them the best winning percentage in all of full season minor league baseball. The Blue Rocks have made the playoffs 10 times in 12 years and won four Carolina League championships.
"We look forward to being in High Desert and hope that we can provide the types of teams to the California League that we brought the Carolina League, " said Shaun McGinn, Director of Player Development for the Royals. "We are thrilled to continue our relationship with the Brett Family through this affiliation."
"We are very excited to be a part of the Royals organization," said Mavericks General Manager Bruce Mann, "They have proven that they can win at this level and win consistently. That's thrilling to think about for our fans and the community."
The Brett family, which owns the Mavericks, has a long history with the Royals. George Brett played 21 seasons for the Royals during his Hall of Fame Career. George is currently a vice president of baseball operations with the Royals.
The Mavericks play in the Advanced-Class "A" California League. The 2005 season will begin next April.
