Chico Outlaws News Release

Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii - The Maui Na Koa Ikaika stormed back late from a 6-2 deficit to defeat the Chico Outlaws 13-7 at Iron Maehara Stadium on Sunday night.

After each team scored twice in the first inning, Chico jumped out to a 6-2 lead with two in the third and single runs in the fifth and sixth. Oscar Sigala tallied four hits, a walk, two runs scored, and three RBI. Al Quintana had three hits and an RBI, and Jay Pecci, Adam Buschini, and Kurt Steinhauer all had two hits.

Jason Mackintosh was sailing along until there were two outs in the sixth. He picked off three men and had a double play turned behind him. He just couldn't get out of the sixth, as five straight men reached on two walks and three hits, four runs scored, and Maui tied the game. Nick Fitzgerald capped the rally with a two-run single.

It remained tied until the eighth, when Maui really broke open the game with seven runs. The first five batters of the inning all singled off of Chico reliever David Roberts, forcing Mike Marshall to go to his bullpen and bring on Ryan Riddle. Riddle didn't fare much better, walking one and hitting another before surrendering two hits. The dagger came on a bases clearing double by J.J. Sherill, the former Outlaw.

Roberts (0-1) took the loss, being charged with four runs in the fateful Maui eighth. Former Outlaw David Dinelli (1-0) earned the win, pitching a scoreless eighth. Rusty Jones tallied his first save.
