Matt Summers Scores Game-Winner Late to Beat Columbus

COLUMBUS, GA- In a thrilling back-and-forth game at the Columbus Civic Center, Mayhem captain Matt Summers scored the game-winning-goal late in the third period to secure a 4-3 victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths.

The Mayhem came out on fire in the first period, as they scored the first three goals of the game. At the 8:28 mark of the game, Collin MacDonald scored on the power play to give Macon an early 1-0 lead. Late in the period, the Mayhem would get back to back goals, with the first goal being scored by Dennis Sicard with just under three minutes left in the first. With just over one minute left in the first period, Joel Wetmore scored to put the Mayhem up 3-0 heading to the first intermission.

The second period was a completely different story for these two teams. Just before the halfway mark of the period, Derek Gingera scored to bring the score to 3-1. About five minutes later, Gingera scored his second of the game on the power play to make it a one goal game. With 56 seconds left in the second frame, Craig Simchuk scored to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the third period.

After no goals for the first 19 minutes of the third period, Mayhem captain Matt Summers scored with 45 seconds left to take the 4-3 lead. In the final seconds, Jordan Ruby had to scramble in front of his net to keep the puck from crossing the line, but he was able to secure the 4-3 Mayhem victory.
