Macon Mayhem News Release

LAST TIME OUT: The Mayhem lost in regulation for the first time since October 28th on Saturday when they were defeated by the Mississippi RiverKings 5-2. The Cottonmouths lost 3-2 to the Evansville Thunderbolts in their last game.

ALL-TIME SERIES: The Mayhem are just 9-1-2 all-time against Columbus, including their 2-0-1 record against them this season.

SCOUTING THE SNAKES: Columbus now sits tied for last in the SPHL standings. The team has struggled in many categories this season, including power play (10th), goals for (10th), goals against (6th), and shots for and against (8th/10th). One category the Snakes have excelled in his penalty kill, as they rank 2nd in the league in PK percentage (87.8%). That will be a key for the Cottonmouths this weekend, as the Mayhem sport the best power play in the SPHL.

NOT-SO-SPECIAL TEAMS: Over the past couple of weeks, the Mayhem have been going the wrong direction in special teams rankings. While their power play still ranks first in the SPHL, it has fallen from 33.33% to 25.5% over the past six games. They have converted just one of their last 14 PP opportunities. The team's penalty kill has also fallen off dramatically, as they have dropped to 6th in PK percentage (82.6%). The Mayhem killed off just one of their three penalties on Saturday vs. Mississippi, and have given up four goals on their last nine penalty kills.

FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME : Along with Macon losing their first game since October 28th, it was also the first time the team gave up four or more goals since that date. Saturday marked the first time that Jordan Ruby has allowed more than four goals this season.

A LOOK TO THE FUTURE: The Mayhem will travel to Fayetteville, NC next Friday to take on the FireAntz on Friday, December 23rd.
