Greenville Triumph SC News Release
Playoff-bound Greenville Triumph SC round out the inaugural 2019 season with a road match against neighboring rival South Georgia Tormenta FC.
What To Watch For:
Getting Back To It: The team hasn't collected a clean sheet in the past three games, marking the longest streak this season (previously two matches). Only one of those three matches has resulted in a loss, but with four goals conceded in three games, the team will focus on the small details that have made the Greenville defense successful - staying on one's feet when defending, reading the risks, blocking shots - you get the gist. What better way for the Triumph to build confidence heading into the playoffs than tallying the club's 14th clean sheet against its neighboring rival?
Speaking Of Rivalry: This is the 5th time the two teams have met. With three matches throughout the regular season and one game played during the U.S. Open Cup, Greenville leads the series at 2-1-1. The last time Greenville stepped onto Erk Russell Park was on March 29 for the first game in USL League One history. That match ended in a 1-0 loss for Greenville. Ironically, the last game of the Triumph's regular season will also take place on Erk Russell Park Field this Saturday. Despite Tormenta FC being eliminated from the playoffs, the South Georgia club couldn't dream of a better close to its season than by defeating playoff-bound Greenville at home once again. With many Greenville fans planning the make the trip to Statesboro, an exciting match is sure to take place!
Did Someone Say Host? Despite the loss last Friday to Orlando City B, there is still potential for Greenville to host the first round of playoffs. Here's the scenario: Lansing (No. 2) and Forward Madison (No. 4) face off Saturday at 3pm. Greenville and South Georgia face off at 8pm. If Forward Madison beats Lansing AND Greenville pulls off the win against Tormenta, the Triumph will host the first round of playoffs on October 11 at 8pm.
