June 15, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release

Sacramento Republic FC will look to continue their 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run on Tuesday, June 16, when they travel to San Jose, Calif. to take on their MLS affiliate the San Jose Earthquakes. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PDT at Avaya Stadium.

This will be the second straight year that Republic FC and the San Jose Earthquakes will meet in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup. Last year the Earthquakes came away with a 2-1 victory, ending Republic FC's inaugural U.S. Open Cup run. Republic FC forward Justin Braun scored the first goal in the 42nd minute but goals from Khari Stephenson in the 45th minute and Cordell Cato in the 73rd minute allowed the Earthquakes to move on.

Republic FC enter the match following a 2-1 comeback victory over Arizona United SC on Saturday, June 13 in USL play. Republic FC went down a goal in just the 9th minute, but late goals by Agustin Cazarez and Danny Barrera gave Republic FC their third road victory of the season.

Republic FC's last U.S. Open Cup match was a 7-3 win over Chula Vista FC on Wednesday, May 27. Five different Republic FC members scored in the match and set a new Republic FC record with seven goals scored in a single match.

Forward Adnan Gabeljic recorded a hat trick against Chula Vista FC, the second hat trick for Republic FC in as many U.S. Open Cup matches. Forward Thomas Stewart recorded a hat trick on May 20 against the Sonoma County Sol. Stewart scored again against Chula Vista FC to bring his U.S. Open Cup total to four, most in this year's tournament.

Midfielder Gabe Gissie recorded two assists against Chula Vista FC after entering the match as a substitute in the 64th minute. Gissie, who has six appearances in all competitions this season, has recorded three assists, tripling his total from last year.

This match will mark the return of midfielder Rodrigo Lopez and forward Braun to the Republic FC lineup. Both players were serving suspensions in USL play, which do not apply to U.S. Open Cup play. Lopez served a three-match suspension following a red card against Oklahoma City Energy FC on May 23. Braun served a one-match suspension for yellow card accumulation. Newly signed midfielder Barrera will not be available for the match as he played earlier in the U.S. Open Cup with Cal FC. U.S. Open Cup rules dictate that a player may only play for one club during each year's tournament.

This will be the first match for the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Last year, San Jose defeated Republic FC in their first match before losing 4-1 on penalties against Seattle Sounders FC.

The Earthquakes are currently in 8th place in the MLS Western Conference just three points behind sixth place LA Galaxy with three games in hand. US Men's National Team forward Chris Wondolowski, who has scored eight of the club's 21 goals this season, leads San Jose.

Four players currently playing for the Earthquakes spent time with Republic FC last season. Forward Adam Jahn appeared in 17 USL matches last season, scoring six goals. Midfielder Tommy Thompson appeared in nine matches, forward Mike Fucito appeared in four matches, recording two goals and an assist and JJ Koval appeared in three matches, scoring two goals. Both Jahn and Koval have played a large role this season, appearing in over 10 matches each.

The match will be broadcast live on KHTK Sports 1140 AM and streamed live at SacRepublicFC.com/matchday. Updates of the match will be also provided via Twitter @SacRepublicFC or using #USOC2015. Fans not traveling to the match may watch the live stream at de Vere's Irish Pub at 1521 L Street in Midtown Sacramento.
