The Latest on the Team
The Indomitable Club secured three crucial points in the Pacific Division race on Wednesday with a 1-0 win at Tacoma Defiance. Second-half substitutes Darek Formella and Kharlton Belmar combined for the game winner in the Pacific Northwest, with Formella notching his fourth goal of the year in the 78th minute to give Republic FC its fifth clean sheet of the season. Formella's score was the club's fourth game winner in the final 20 minutes this season.
Emil Cuello settled in more to his attacking midfield role with the Boys in Old Glory Red, creating multiple scoring chances for the second straight game while logging three attempts on frame. In the defensive third, Nabi Kibunguchy blocked two shots and dispossessed the Defiance 12 times.
How about Los Dos?
Galaxy II snapped a two-match losing streak last weekend with a 1-0 win at Oakland Roots SC, thanks to a converted penalty from Taylor Davilla in the 75th minute. Los Dos currently sits in seventh in the Pacific Division with 26 points and seven of their remaining nine matches - including Sunday - against divisional opponents.
Head-to-Head
SRFC is 11-6-6 all-time against Galaxy II, including 4-4-3 at home. Sunday's matchup will be the first in Sacramento since October 2, 2019, when the Indomitable Club secured a point with a dramatic 89th-minute equalizer.
Republic FC holds a 1-0-1 edge over the Southern California side in 2021. The last head-to-head matchup on September 1 saw each side convert a penalty in the final five minutes, but it was Cam Iwasa's conversion from the spot in the 90th minute that secured a point for the Boys in Old Glory Red in a wild 3-3 draw at Dignity Health Sports Park.
