The Latest - Republic FC
After four straight Wednesdays in action, Sacramento will return to a regular training regimen this week - and it comes at a great time. After leaving it all on the field in not one, but two regional derby matches in four days last week, the club finally has sufficient time to recharge after six matches in May.
Adding to it, the club will welcome back Douglas Martinez, who missed the Bay Area trip last week serving a suspension for a red card on May 18 in El Paso. In their first contest against Oakland, Sacramento had trouble converting on their chances, and Martinez's return will go a long way in helping the club bounce back. They'll need the threat he provides if they want to take down a club boasting one of USL's top defensive units.
Opponent Report
San Antonio has opened the year very sharp. Aside from two tough defeats to Phoenix - the only matches where they've failed to score this season - they've been perfect, taking three points every time. They enter the contest tied for the top in points, first in wins, and second in clean sheets with six - a result of a complete, team effort every night.
Every member of their squad is capable of making something happen, and no player stands head and shoulders over the rest on the stat sheet. Their scoring leaders, all tied at four, come from three different positions, as do their leaders in chances created. However, The Texas club does have a disadvantage to account for, as defender Shannon Gomez will be out on international duty for Trinidad and Tobago in the CONCACAF Nations League.
Head to Head History
All-time, the two sides have played each other tough. In eight previous contests with San Antonio, Sacramento has compiled a 3-3-2 record. The two clubs last faced off in September last season, with San Antonio taking the victory, but before then, Sacramento had the edge taking two in a row and three of four. The scoreline is dead even, with both clubs finding the net nine times.
