Sunday's faceoff will be the second game this month between the two teams as the RailHawks are coming off of a 3-1 home loss to the Cosmos that took place on August 22nd. The team looks to redeem themselves on New York turf and end the Cosmos' undefeated home streak.

Last matchup between the two had a stellar beginning for Akira Fitzgerald and his defensive lineup, as they were able to hold off early opposing attacks from the Cosmos. A Daniel Scott header in the 16th minute ended the stalemate and put the RailHawks on the scoreboard where the score remained 1-0 going into the half.

Coach Colin Clarke was forced to make a halftime substitution for the injured midfielder Tiyi Shipalane, who had an assist on Scott's goal. In the second half the RailHawks battled hard without one of their key players, but ended up conceding goals in the 46th, 54th, and 57th minutes.

The Cosmos extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches as they were held to a scoreless draw by Ottawa Fury FC at TD Place on Wednesday night.

The RailHawks currently sit in eight place in the combined standings, only four points off of a post-season berth, and tenth place in the NASL Fall Season standings with eight points. The Cosmos are currently in first place in the combined standings with 36 points and are in second place in the Fall Season with 16 points.

The RailHawks will return to WakeMed Soccer Park on Friday, September 4th at 7:30 pm to host Atlanta Silverbacks.

Coach's Quote

"We are coming off a hard loss against the Cosmos at home," said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. "We played very well in the first half last game and we want to continue to play our best as we get to a crucial portion of the season. We respect the Cosmos and we know we can still turn things around and get positive results."
