Players to Watch
North Carolina FC - #5 Malick Mbaye
A defensive asset in NCFC's last three matches, Mbaye prevented several attacks in last weekend's match against the Richmond Kickers, proving his value to the NCFC backline. His quickness on the ball, tenacity in the defensive third, and ability to win tackles will provide a challenge to FC Tucson's offense, especially when paired with teammates Nelson Martinez, Max Flick, and Nelson Flores, among others.
FC Tucson - #9 Deri Corfe
Corfe earned USL League One Team of the Week honors for a recent performance against Forward Madison, in which he scored a goal and maintained a 90% passing success rate throughout the match. Corfe has appeared as a member of the FC Tucson starting lineup in all three of their regular season contests thus far, clocking 254 minutes of playing time. The Chester, England native will look to threaten the NCFC backline and create scoring chances in Saturday's competition.
Last Time Out
In a performance that head coach John Bradford called a "collectively strong effort from start to finish," North Carolina FC drew 0-0 with the Richmond Kickers last Saturday, earning their first clean sheet of the season. Despite an impressive showing from goalkeeper Jake McGuire and stellar effort from Selmir Miščić and Jay Tee Kamara in the attacking third, neither side was able to find a go-ahead goal and the points were shared as the final whistle blew. Throughout the game, NCFC maintained 57% possession and 83% passing accuracy, and Yekeson Subah and Britton Fischer made their First Team debuts.
