Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville, KY - Coming off back-to-back losses for the first time ever, Louisville City FC (5-2-5, 20 points) will be seeking their sixth victory of the season, and to carry on their unbeaten streak at Louisville Slugger Field, when the New York Red Bulls II (4-5-4, 16 points) come to town. The scheduled 7:30pm kickoff on Saturday is the start of a key four-match home stand for Louisville.
City is coming off a heartbreaking 0-1 extra time defeat in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup against the Chicago Fire.. The winner came from a Quincy Amarikwa header in the 116th minute after, what appeared to be, a Chicago Fire handball. The match marked just the third time this season that City was held scoreless. Louisville is in their longest scoring drought, having gone over 230 minutes without a goal, despite creating a plethora of chances in their last two matches.
Louisville's last USL match was on Saturday, where the first year club suffered a 0-2 loss to the Rochester Rhinos. Both goals came as a result of unfortunate breaks for Louisville. A poor clearance in the first half led to the Rhinos opening goal. Sean Reynolds went down with an injury just as Rochester got into the 18-yard-box leaving the left side wide open and allowing Steevan Dos Santos to score his second goal of the match.
New York Red Bulls II are coming off of a 1-0 win at Wilmington on Saturday. Chris Tsonis' goal in the 72nd minute gave the MLS 2 side a key win that propelled them over the playoff line. Saturday's match will be the fourth of a six-game road trip for New York.
For Louisville a win could push them within a point of the Richmond Kickers for third place in the USL's Eastern Conference. Fans can purchase tickets ahead of time to avoid the lines on match day by visiting LouisvilleCityFC.com/tickets.
