
Match Preview: Crew Continues Homestand with Clash against La Galaxy

COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew (6-8-9, 27 points) continues a three-match homestand by hosting the LA Galaxy (9-4-7, 34 points) at Crew Stadium on Saturday, August 16 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel is televising the game, with Dwight Burgess, Chris Doran and Ashleigh Ignelzi on the call. Neil Sika and John Bluem are set to describe the action for 95.5 The Game, with Carlos Cordova and Juan Valladares behind the microphone for La Mega 103.1 FM.
Saturday's contest features a special pre-match ceremony for M ajor League Soccer and United States Men's National Team great Landon Donovan, who is set to retire following the 2014 season. A special commemorative item is being presented to Donovan by the Crew organization, celebrating his ties to Columbus . Donovan appeared in three of the famous "Dos a Cero" matches for his country, w on MLS Cup in 2001 and played in the 2005 MLS All-Star Game at Crew Stadium. The tilt is set to be followed by post-match fireworks, presented by Scioto Downs Racino.
Crew Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter is also set to face his mentor in LA Galaxy General Manager and Head Coach Bruce Arena for the first time. Arena named Berhalter a Player-Coach for the 2011 MLS season in LA, and the Crew boss was a regular call-up during Arena's tenure of the United States National Team from 1998-2006.
Since scoring a beautiful goal off of a free kick in New England on July 26, Federico Higuain has been on a tear. The Crew's Designated Player has tallied in three straight matches after finding a goal on August 2 and again last weekend against Toronto FC. Higuain leads the Black & Gold in goals (nine) and assists (five) in 2014.
