Storylines
There's No Place Like Home: The Red Stars are back at SeatGeek Stadium for the first time since the quarterfinals of the 2021 NWSL Playoffs against NJ/NY Gotham FC. The team hopes to replicate the success it had last season at home when they went 8-2-2 at home.
Building off 2021: In the debut season for Kansas City, they faced off against Chicago three times. The Red Stars swept the season series with the Current scoring seven goals and only allowing one. Kealia Watt scored 1 goal with 2 assists and Mallory Pugh earned 3 assists in the 2021 matchups against Kansas City.
Gen Z Takeover: The Red Stars kicked off Challenge Cup play with contributions from a number of young players including Tatumn Milazzo, Zoe Morse, Ella Stevens and Bianca St-Georges, with Milazzo being the only player of the group to get consistent minutes last season. Joining them, but coming off the bench were Jill Aguilera, Ava Cook, Channing Foster and Sarah Griffith, all who played important roles in the second half of the match.
