
Match Preview: Carolina RailHawks vs. Puerto Rico Islander

North Carolina FC News Release
CARY, N.C. - The Carolina RailHawks (0-4-4, 4 pts.) will host NASL leaders, Puerto Rico Islanders (5-1-1, 16 pts.) in their first matchup of the season at WakeMed Soccer Park. RailHawks head coach, Colin Clarke, led the Islanders from 2007-2011. The match will be the first of two matches in four days as the RailHawks are also preparing to host PSA Elite for the second round of the U.S. Open Cup.
"We have a very important few days ahead of us, and the match against Puerto Rico is a great opportunity to continue improving," said Head Coach Colin Clarke. "At Minnesota we played very well defensively and offensively, we just need to capitalize our chances. Our team has been improving and we want to continue that improvement."
LAST MEETING
The RailHawks travelled to Puerto Rico on April 21st in a match that ended with a 3-1 victory for the Islanders. David Foley, Richard Martinez, and Nicholas Addlery scored the goals for the Islanders with forward Jonathan Faña contributing two assists. The RailHawks scored off an own goal by the Islanders after a shot by Shriver was deflected into goal.
LAST TIME OUT
The RailHawks travelled to Minnesota to play Stars FC for the second time this year. Although the RailHawks dominated most of the game, the Stars won the match 2-1. Local player Austin Da Luz scored his first goal as a RailHawks to give hope of an equalizer in stoppage time. Gale Agbossoumonde made his RailHawks debut and played the full match.
NEXT MATCH
The RailHawks will return to WakeMed Soccer Park on May 22nd to face PSA Elite at 7:00 PM ET for the second round of the U.S. Open Cup. Tickets for the match can be purchased online at www.CarolinaRailHawks.com or by calling the Cruizers Box Office at 919-459-8144.
U.S. OPEN CUP
The RailHawks return to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, after a brief hiatus in 2011. The club will enter the tournament in the Second Round along with other NASL and United Soccer Leagues (3rd division) clubs. On Tuesday, May 22nd, the RailHawks will open the tournament at WakeMed Soccer Park against PSA Elite. Kickoff for the match is set for 7:00PM. With a victory on Tuesday, the RailHawks will host reigning MLS Champions, L.A. Galaxy on May 29th at 7:00 PM in the Third Round of the competition.
