FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (2W-3T-3L) came up short in a 3-1 home loss to the Minnesota Stars (4W-3T-0L) in front of 2,720 fans at Lockhart Stadium on Saturday, May 19th. The win was the first for the Stars franchise at Lockhart Stadium. The Strikers will now prepare for the second round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup to be played at Lockhart Stadium on Tuesday, May 22nd.

The game started well for the Strikers when midfielder Mark Anderson scored his second goal of the season from Abe Thompson who sent in a cross from the right side and Anderson flicked the ball into the far side of the net.

Minnesota evened the match just before halftime when Amani Walker picked up a missed back pass in front of the Strikers goal and shot over the shoulder of Matt Glaeser to make it 1-1 at halftime.

The Stars went ahead in the 62nd minute when Justin Davis' shot was deflected by Glaeser, but the rebound found an open Miguel Ibarra who scored his second goal of the season to make it 2-1.

The Strikers nearly evened the match several times, but were again victimized by the counter attack in the 83rd minute when a pass from midfield found Amani Walker behind the right side of the defense. Walker struck a through ball onto the feet of second-half substitute Simon Bracalello who scored his first goal of the year and a final score of 3-1.

The Strikers next match comes on Tuesday, May 22nd against the Fresno Fuego at Lockhart Stadium at 7:30pm
