October 12, 2021 - Canadian Premier League (CPL)
Atletico Ottawa News Release
Atlético Ottawa heads West for its first visit to Clarke Stadium on Tuesday, October 12 (KO 9PM ET, live on OneSoccer) when it faces off against FC Edmonton for the first time since leaving the bubble. Ottawa needs a win and nothing else to keep any playoff hopes alive.
MATCH NOTES
This will be the first time Atlético Ottawa plays at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton, but the fourth match between the two sides. Ottawa holds a slight advantage with an all-time record of 1W-2D-0L against the Eddies (1W-1D-0L this season).
Zach Verhoven was the lone Ottawa goalscorer when the two last met on July 18, match that ended in a 1-1 draw.
This maiden visit to Edmonton will also mark a return home of sorts for the Atléti GK Dylon Powley, who was born in BC but grew up in Edmonton, playing his youth soccer with Edmonton Juventus and the Edmonton Drillers.
Powley also joined Atlético Ottawa ahead of the 2021 from FC Edmonton where he had spent the previous two seasons. He had featured in a total of 9 matches in 2019-2020, including one Canadian Championship game.
Ottawa has five matches remaining in the season, and must capture the full 15 points to have a statistical chance at a playoff spot. Head Coach Mista, however, will focus on building positive play and get the best performance possible from his squad.
With a cautious outlook on the future of the franchise, Atlético Ottawa players will want to put their best foot forward in the remaining league action to furnish their resume and potential for new contracts.
OUT: Brandon John (injury, season); Victor Martinez (injury, game to game).
