STATESBORO, Ga. - Returning home, South Georgia Tormenta FC will host 2020 USL League One champion Greenville Triumph SC on Saturday, May 22, at 7 p.m. ET. Kicking off at Erk Russell Park in Statesboro, Georgia, Tormenta FC prepares for its biggest challenge of the 2021 season. The league champion travels to Statesboro fresh off a 1-1 draw with Union Omaha, who sits at second place in USL League One. Looking to upset Greenville early in the season, Tormenta FC must do everything right and find the back of the net early.
In previous meetings between the two clubs, Tormenta FC holds a 2-3-1 record against Greenville. Most recently, the South Carolina side escaped Statesboro with a narrow 2-1 victory. Controlling the match with 58% of possession and 10 shots, Tormenta FC was bested by two first-half goals from the Triumph.
Entering week seven of USL League One play, key Greenville players to note are returners Lachlan McLean and Alex Morrell who both scored in last year's matchup between the two clubs. McLean is an Australian forward, who has scored seven goals for the Triumph since his club debut in July of 2020, while Morrell is a former Tormenta FC winger and scored the first goal in USL League One history against his current team in March 2019.
On Tormenta FC's side, the Triumph must not underestimate the experience and versatility of the TFC roster. Scoring in two matches thus far, Marco Micalletto has been Tormenta FC's playmaker in the midfield. Alongside Micalletto, Luca Mayr-Fälten has tallied seven shots in just three appearances since returning from an injury.
