Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
LANSING, MI -- Lansing centerfielder Darin Mastroianni homered and drove in four runs to lead the Lugnuts to a 6-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Thursday night at Oldsmobile Park. Lansing starter Kyle Ginley was the beneficiary as he picked up his fifth win of the season.
Lansing (15-11) jumped on Rattler starter Nathan Adcock immediately in the bottom of the first. Justin Jackson and Kevin Ahrens had back-to-back singles. Mastroianni, the number three batter in the Lansing order, launched a homer to right field for a 3-0 lead.
Wisconsin rallied back with a long ball of their own in the top of the second. Ron Garth singled with two outs. Joe Dunigan followed with a homer to left. His first homer of the season pulled Wisconsin to within a run.
But, the Lugnuts scored twice in the bottom of the third. Ahrens tripled in a run with two outs. Mastroianni followed with an RBI single for a 5-2 lead.
The Rattler batters got to Ginley for plenty more hits, but could not dent the plate against him. Ginley scattered seven hits over six innings and struck out six. That put him in line to run his record to 5-0.
Ahrens was involved in getting an insurance run for the Lugnuts in the bottom of the eight. He tripled to start the frame and scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Liuzza.
Wisconsin put their first two hitters on in the top of the ninth inning against Cody Crowley, but Crowley got a pair of strikeouts and a groundout to close out the game.
Game two of the series is set for Friday night. Donnie Hume (2-0, 1.42) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Nate Starner (1-2, 1.29) is set to go for the Lugnuts. Game time is 6:05pm CDT.
