Maryland Black Bears News Release
Maryland forward Luke Posner had a few chances in regulation time to put the puck behind Jamestown goalie Noah West but could not prevail. However, overtime was a different story. Posner's wrist shot proved to be the difference maker in a 2-1 Black Bears win.
The scoring started early, with Rebels' forward Colin Schmidt got the puck at the side of the net and ripped it passed a sliding Black Bears goalie David Tomeo to make it 1-0. After this goal, Tomeo put on a show stopping numerous Rebels scoring chances.
"He was sharp all night," Maryland Head Coach Clint Mylymok said, "From puck drop to the bitter end. That's what a good goalie does."
The game was just past the midway point of the third period, where Maryland forward Daylon Mannon put the puck past Noah West off a behind the net feed from Matteo Menotti. Mannon's sixth goal of the season tied the game 1-1.
Then it was Luke Posner who played the hero for Maryland in overtime. He sped past the defenders, cut across the offensive zone, and fired the puck low glove side for the goal to give the Black Bears a 2-1 win.
"He's hard to handle when he wants to go," Coach Mylymok said of Posner, "He comes down with so much speed he gets goalies off their angles and gets them pressing deep in their net. He found a hole and made a great shot."
The win snaps a three game losing streak for Maryland, who sits at fourth in the East Division with 16 points. The Black Bears travel to Johsntown, PA, for a series with the division leaders the Johnstown Tomahawks. Puck drop for that game is 7:30 PM ET.
Maryland won't be home until Friday November 30th against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. Puck drop for that game will be 7:45 PM ET at Piney Orchard Ice Arena. This will be the Knights first visit to Maryland in franchise history.
