Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - A third period rally by the Amarillo Bulls propelled them to a big win and remained in first place in the North American Hockey League's South Division on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

David Ojamae fired the game winning goal just past the midway mark of the third period and the defense did the job the rest of the way as the Bulls held off the Shreveport Mudbugs 3-2.

Alex Peterson scored twice and was flying all over the ice for the Bulls. Brenden Datema and Brett Abdelnour each had two helpers. Jason Grande was outstanding in net and continued his strong play of points in four of his last five games.

It was the Mudbugs that came out strong in the first two minutes of play and nearly took the early lead, but Jason Grande made a sprawling save. A short time later, David Ojamae spotted Alex Peterson open and he was able to lift a hard shot over the shoulder of Maiszon Balboa and into the net. The Bulls outshot Shreveport 15-11 in the second period.

A minor breakdown allowed the visitors to tie the game in the first 22 seconds of the second period as Jay Feiwell scored off a rush up the ice. The Bulls had the majority of the scoring chances and the shots on goal in the second period, but couldn't push through and get the puck across the goal line. Shreveport grabbed a 2-1 lead late in the stanza when Jack Jaunich carried the puck up the ice and shot the puck past Grande. The Bulls outshot Shreveport 20-7 in the period.

Alex Peterson tied the game to start the third period when he tipped home a shot from Brenden Datema at the side of the net. Noah Carlin also picked up an assist on the play. With the momentum clearly on the Bulls shoulders, the home side found a way to get the lead for good when David Ojamae was left wide open in the slot area and he connected on a great shot.

Down the stretch the Bulls defense and goaltender of Grande kept the Mudbugs from pulling even. The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Shreveport Mudbugs 46-26. There were seven combined power plays with neither team being able to score.
