Buffalo Bisons News Release

Buffalo Bisons manager Marty Brown was named Minor League Manager-of-the-Year by Baseball America. Brown led the Herd to the Governors' Cup Championship this season, defeating the Richmond Braves in the best-of-five game series, 3-1.

"This is another great honor for Marty Brown," said Bisons Vice President and General Manager Mike Buczkowski. "He did a fantastic job all year and deserves all the accolades that are given him."

Brown, 41, was also named the International League Manager-of-the-Year.

In his second season with the Bisons, Brown led the team to the best record in the International League at 83-61. That's despite the fact that Buffalo was just six outs away from having the league's worst record on May 22. Down 8-1 to Norfolk in the eighth inning, the Bisons rallied to win the game 9-8. After that victory, the Bisons won 66 of their next 102 games (.647 winning percentage) to earn the International League North Division title. Brown orchestrated the turn around despite an ever-changing roster that saw 67 total players and 45 pitchers play for the team.

Brown also had a winning record with the Bisons in 2003, as Buffalo finished that season, 73-70. He becomes the second Bisons manager to win the award in the last five years. Joel Skinner took the honor after leading the Herd to a 86-59 record in the 2000 season.
