Richmond Roosters News Release

Chillicothe, Ohio – The Richmond hitters were held in check on Saturday night and were beaten 4-1 by the Paints at V.A. Memorial Stadium. The Roosters produced ten hits, but couldn't muster a run in the first eight innings against right-hander John Martinez. Martinez was 0-2 versus the Roosters in 2004, but was in control the entire night this time. Kris Regas made his first start for Richmond, taking the spot formerly held by Mike White, who has been moved to the bullpen. Regas pitched four innings and gave up three runs to Chillicothe before being pulled. The Paints got five hits in the fourth inning including a two run homer from John Ramistella. A third run was added when Mike Spry scored from third on a sacrifice fly to give Chillicothe a 3-0 lead. The Paints got a fourth run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Dan Caldwell walked in a run to make it 4-0.

The Roosters tried to rally in their last at-bat when Mike Reese singled with two on base to score Alex Rybczak and cut the lead to 4-1, but Ty Herriott bounced out to the pitcher in the next at-bat to end the game and give Chillicothe the win.

John Martinez (3-0) has won in every start this season. He worked himself into tough situations in both the seventh and ninth innings by putting runners in scoring position, but was able to retire Herriott on both occasions for the last out.

Richmond continues the series on Sunday at 5:05pm (Indiana time). Matt Schweitzer (1-1, 1.15 ERA) will start for the Roosters (3-7) and K.C. Jones (0-0, 7.11 ERA) is now expected to take the hill for the Paints (6-4).
