HICKORY, NC- Hickory Crawdads infielder Tripp Martin has been named the South Atlantic League's Player of the Week for April 20th -26th, with the slugger's dominating 8-game stretch giving the 'Dads the award for the second straight week to start the season.

Martin, 23, joined the Crawdads on April 17th from Extended Spring Training with the Rangers when Jairo Beras was placed on the DL. The Alabama native has done nothing but hit since, with a .346/.452/.923 slash line, 4 home runs, 8 RBI, 3 doubles, and six runs scored over the past week. Despite playing in only 10 of the Crawdads 17 games this season, Martin already ranks third in the SAL in homers, while his slugging percentage (.853) and OPS (1.263) would both rank first in the league if he had enough at-bats to qualify.

Selected by the Texas Rangers in the 22nd round of the 2014 Draft out of Samford University, Martin missed the entire 2014 season after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder. He made his professional debut with the 'Dads on April 17th, going 2-3 with a double and a triple while helping Hickory to a 5-1 win over Kannapolis. Martin's production at the plate helped the Crawdads to a 7-1 record this week, raising their league-best record to 13-4 on the season.

The 'Dads are on the road for the next week, with a three game series in Greensboro before a four game set in Charleston. The team will return to L.P. Frans Stadium for a week-long home stand on Wednesday, May 6th.
