Sand Gnats Avoid Sweep Sunday, 4-2

Charleston, SC - The RiverDogs (12-5) took the first three games of the series, but Sand Gnats starter Martires Arias (2-0, 2.12) threw seven shutout innings to lead the Gnats to a 4-2 victory.

The Sand Gnats (6-11) scored the game's first run in the third, when OF John Mora doubled home Pedro Perez.

With the Gnats up 1-0, Stefan Sabol lead-off the 7th with a double. Jon Leroux would score Sabol with a 2-run shot to left center field giving the Gnats a 3-0 lead.

Reliever Cameron Griffin would take over in the 8th, after Arias lasted 7.0 innings and allowed just four hits on his way to his second win of the season. Griffin earned a hold after allowing just one hit.

The RiverDogs would plate two in the 8th with Devyn Bolasky scoring on a wild pitch by Griffin and Abiatal Avelino would score on a sac-fly by Jorge Mateo.

Perez would plate Tomas Nido in the ninth to give the Gnats an insurance run and the 4-2 final score.

The Sand Gnats will have an off day tomorrow, before returning home to face the Delmarva Shorebirds at Historic Grayson Stadium at 7:05 PM. The Gnats will throw RHP Scarlyn Reyes (0-2, 3.60) on Tuesday, while the Shorebirds will throw RHP Matthew Grimes (0-0, 6.75) in game one.
