Martin Homers But BlueClaws Fall 2-1 on Friday

BROOKLYN, NY - Nick Zwack threw five scoreless innings to lead Brooklyn to a 2-1 win over the BlueClaws on Friday night at Maimonides Park in the first game of the second half.

The BlueClaws (0-1, 25-42) have dropped three of the first four to Brooklyn (1-0, 31-36) in their six game series in Coney Island.

The Cyclones jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Jose Mena hit his third home run of the season. Jaylen Palmer singled home a run in the fourth to put the Cyclones up 2-1.

Jersey Shore starter Mick Abel (4-6) gave up the two runs over a career-long 6.1 innings in the loss. He gave up four hits, walked one, and struck out six. Meanwhile, Zwack (1-1) gave up four hits over his five scoreless innings. He also walked one and struck out six.

The BlueClaws got on the board in the seventh on a solo home run by Casey Martin. It was Martin's third home run of the year and came off Nate Jones. Sammy Tavarez, however, came on in the eighth and got the last four outs to earn his fifth save of the season.

Carlos Francisco retired both batters he faced and Andrew Schultz threw a scoreless inning in relief for the BlueClaws.

Rixon Wingrove and Baron Radcliff each had two hits for Jersey Shore.

The teams continue their series on Saturday night at 6:00 pm. RHP Ben Brown starts for the BlueClaws.
