Mobile BayBears Professional Baseball, the AA affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, announced today that RF Alfredo Marte has been named the Southern League Hitter of the Week for the week ending on June 24.
Marte, 23, was honored with the 2012 Southern League All-Star Game MVP award on Tuesday and continued his hot hitting in the BayBears first series of the second half against the Montgomery Biscuits. Marte batted .556, going 3-for-9 at the plate. The All-Star right fielder hit one home run, scored four runs and drove in four runners, helping Mobile win two straight games over the weekend. In the month of June, Marte is batting .462 with 11 doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI in 16 games played.
Born in Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, DO, Marte Signed with the Diamondbacks as a non-drafted free agent on Dec. 12, 2005. Through 65 games, Marte is batting .294 with 14 home runs and 49 RBI.
