BayBears Bested by Biscuits in Series Finale
June 25, 2012 - Southern League (SL1)
Mobile BayBears News Release
The Mobile BayBears dropped their series finale to the Montgomery Biscuits with a 15-4 loss on Monday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium. With the win, Montgomery took the series, winning three of the five games as Mobile lost just the third of their last 10 games at home. Montgomery scored the first run every game in the series and pulled away in the final two frames, scoring 11 runs after taking advantage of three fielding errors by Mobile.
LHP Tyler Skaggs (pictured right) suffered the loss, falling to 5-4 on the season. Skaggs allowed a run on an RBI single by Ryan Garko in the first inning, then surrendered a two-run homer to Brett Nommensen in the second inning. He later served up a solo homer to Michael Sheridan in the third inning. Skaggs pitched five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. The four runs allowed by Skaggs were the most the BayBears lefty had allowed in an outing this season. Over his last five starts, Skaggs had not allowed more than two runs in a game.
David Nick led the BayBears offensively. Nick went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs with RBI doubles in the fourth and ninth innings. Montgomery posted three runs in the eighth inning after a shallow fly ball was dropped in center field off the glove of Evan Frey. The Biscuits scored two of their three runs in the eighth inning on back-to-back RBI doubles from Ty Morrison and Ryan Garko. Having already scored two runs in the ninth inning, the Biscuits tacked on five more runs when Mark Krauss had a ball drop out of his glove in right field, allowing the inning to continue.
The BayBears will now travel to Huntsville for a five game series with the Stars at 6:43 PM Tuesday. RHP Gaby Hernandez (0-3) will make the start for Mobile, and the Stars will send out RHP Josh Stinson (7-4).
Mobile will return home on July 1st for a three game set with the Mississippi Braves.
