Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 25, 2012) - The Generals won the rubber match of the five-game series Monday afternoon at Pringles Park, 6-5. The Generals win three of five from Huntsville and are now 45-30, 3-2 on the season. Jackson took advantage of a season-high 11 walks handed out by Huntsville pitching.
Jackson got off to a hot start, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. Stefen Romero (2x3, 4.50) collected his seventh RBI as a General with a double to left field, scoring Leury Bonilla. After Kalian Sams was walked, Chih-Hsien Chiang slapped his eighth double of the season to drive in two runs.
Generals starter Taijuan Walker pitched two hitless innings before the Stars' big third inning. Scooter Gennett claimed 2 RBIs on a double to left. Hunter Morris followed with a 3-run home run on the first pitch of the at-bat. Huntsville led 5-4.
Jackson responded in the bottom of the third inning after starting with three straight walks. With the bases loaded, Chih-Hsien Chiang hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Romero. Chiang went 2-for-4 on the game with three RBIs.
In the fifth inning, Eric Campbell hit a 2-out home run off Huntsville reliever Dan Merklinger. The solo shot was Campbell's fifth homer of the season. After singles by Ralph Henriquez and Chris Pettit, a fielding error allows Gabriel Noriega to reach first and drive in Henriquez. That go-ahead run made the score 6-5 in favor of Jackson.
RHP Taylor Stanton earned the victory to improve to 2-2 on the season. Stanton (7.32 ERA) pitched four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out one. Generals closer Carter Capps earned his eleventh save of the year after 1.1 innings of work with two strike outs.
The Generals will travel to Pensacola on Tuesday to begin a five-game series against the Blue Wahoos. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Central Time. LHP Steve Garrison (4-3, 4.25) will start for Jackson against RHP Tim Crabbe for the Wahoos.
