
Marte Batter of the Week for Record-Tying Fourth Time

Thornhill, Ontario - New Jersey Jackals OF Alfredo Marte is the Can-Am League's Batter of the Week for the week of August 19-25, as selected by PointStreak, the league's official statistician. It marks the fourth time this season Marte has earned the honor, tying him for the league record with Quebec 3B Eddie Lantigua in 2005.
In six games, Marte went 10-for-20 (.500) with three home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored as the Jackals went 3-3. In the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday against Rockland, the native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, blasted two homers and drove in five of his team's six runs in an 11-6 defeat. He also had two hits in three other games on the week.
The 30-year-old leads the Can-Am League with 16 home runs, 86 RBI, 176 total bases and 43 extra-base hits, and is tied for the league lead with 27 doubles.
Marte is in his first season with the Jackals and his 14th season as a professional, having played in the Arizona, Los Angeles Angels, Baltimore and Philadelphia organizations. He spent parts of three seasons in the majors, appearing in 71 games with the Angels (2013-14) and the Diamondbacks (2015).
