The Marshals News Release
Cincinnati, OH â The Cincinnati Marshals of the National Indoor Football League proudly announce the signing of Ron Carpenter as a corner back and kick returner for the 2005 season.
Carpenter grew up in Cincinnati and played his high school football at Princeton High School in Springdale. He enjoyed great success while at Princeton and helped lead the Tigers all the way to the 1987 State Championship.
After high school, Carpenter was recruited by Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he was a three year All Mid America Conference selection. He also set a school record with 16 career interceptions and was named a nominee for the Jim Thorpe Award which is given to the top defensive back in college football.
In 1993 he was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an unrestricted rookie free agent. He went on to spend two seasons with the New York Jets before being signed as a free agent by the Saint Louis Rams in 1998. He played two years with the Rams, seeing significant time on special teams and earning a Super Bowl ring when the team defeated the Tennessee Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV.
Carpenter was drafted by the Las Vegas Outlaws of the XFL in 2000 but finished the season with the league's Los Angeles Xtreme. With the Xteme, Carpenter was able to earn a ring after winning the XFL's Championship game in the league's only year of existence.
He joined the Arena Football League and became the first player to be on the rosters of teams that played in the Super Bowl and the ArenaBowl in the same year. He spent two years with the Nashville Kats of the AFL before the team became the Georgia Force in 2002. He went on to play for the past two seasons with the expansion Detroit Fury where he helped lead the team to the playoffs in their first year of existence. Carpenter has become well known as a quick, agile kick returner and an outstanding corner back.
He welcomes the chance to come back to Cincinnati to play in front of his home crowd and earn his third Championship ring by leading the Marshals to the NIFL Championship.
Individual game tickets are priced at $25.00 (VIP), $20.00, $15.00, and $10.00 and can be ordered at all Ticketmaster locations including select Kroger stores, the U.S. Bank Arena Box Office, online at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 513-562-4949.
