Marshall Signs With RiverKings
August 19, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League have announced the addition of defenseman Dane Marshall to its roster for the 2008-09 season. The standout blue liner from the University of Southern Maine becomes the ninth player signed by the RiverKings for the upcoming CHL season.
Marshall received honors in all four seasons of his college career for the Huskies. He was named to the league's all-rookie team in his freshman year, was a second-team all-league choice in his sophomore and senior years, and a first-team all-conference selection after his junior campaign.
The 5-foot-10, 185 pound defenseman set a school record for games played with 106, scoring seven goals and adding 61 assists for 68 points. The 61 assists placed him fifth on the USM all-time charts in that category.
The native of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada was also a two-time all-ECAC East All-Academic Team selection and was a member of the New England Hockey Writers Association All-New England team in 2007.
RiverKings' Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski says, "Dane Marshall comes highly recommended by the staff at USM; the scouting report is that he is a very strong skater and is very good with the puck."
Marshall believes his puck skills are one of his main attributes. "I feel I'm a good, puck-moving defenseman who can chip in offensively and take care of things in the defensive end."
The RiverKings' head coach added that Marshall can provide a strong presence in the defensive zone. "He plays big for only 5'10 and is a very heads up player with great leadership qualities," Kaminski said.
For his part, Dane says he's ready to contribute. "I know it will be a challenge, because it will be a much higher caliber of hockey. But, I believe I'm ready to make that jump to the next level."
The RiverKings will play their season opening game at home at the DeSoto Civic Center on Friday, October 17th, beginning at 7:05 PM. Season tickets for the RiverKings 2008-09 season are available by calling the RiverKings at 662-342-1755.
