Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday that they have signed rookie forward Kevin Hurley for the 2008-09 season. Hurley spent the last five seasons playing for the University of Waterloo (CIS), in Waterloo, Ontario.

The 6'3, 210 pound Hurley led the Warriors in scoring in two out of his five seasons, including putting up a team-leading 34 points last year. During the 2007-08 campaign, Hurley captained the team as he scored 13 goals, and handed out 21 asssits to total 34 points.

"Kevin is big, he is strong, and he led his college team in scoring twice. He's what we were looking for this off-season", said Bucks Head Coach and General Manager Terry Ruskowski. "The guy can flat out play".

In his five seasons at Waterloo Hurley scored 48 goals, handed out 78 assists, for 126 points in 128 games with the Warriors. Hurley spent 204 minutes in the penalty box in his five college seasons.

Hurley, a native of Kitchener, Ontario, had a very successful 2005-06 season with Waterloo, as he once again led his team in scoring with 30 points (12-18=30), earning him an OUA Conference Second-Team All-Star selection.

In both seasons that Hurley led the Warriors in scoring he eclipsed 12 goals, and 30 points. He scored 12 goals in 2005-06, and tallied 13 in 2007-08, while he put up 30 points in 05-06, and 34 in 07-08.

"Kevin is very versatile. He can play right wing, as well as center ice", Ruskowski said. "That's very valuable to us if we need him to switch positions anytime during the season. That will be a luxury to have".

Hurley put up 19 or more points in each of his five college seasons.

Before joining Waterloo Hurley Captained the Kitchener Dutchman to the league finals in 2002, and then was picked up by the Kitchener Rangers who went onto win the Memorial Cup in the OHL.

Hurley is the ninth off-season signing for the Bucks, joining five other rookies on the roster.

The Bucks, who open training camp October 6th, will open their seventh CHL season at the LEC on October 17th against the Rocky Mountain Rage. Call 718-BUCK (2825) to order your tickets today.
