Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
PASCO, Washington - After dropping game two with a stymied comeback the Volcanoes rebounded and put together a well-rounded team performance to shutout the Dust Devils 2-0.
The Volcanoes pitching staff engineered one of its best staff performances of the year, allowing just four hits while striking out ten Tri-City batters to shut out the home team.
Starter Mac Marshall tossed 4.0 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just one hit while striking out 7 batters in his outing. Nolan Riggs came in and threw 4.0 innings of long relief work and struck out one batter, giving up just three hits to earn the win. Patrick Ruotolo then came in for a three out save, gave up no hits and struck out two to end the game.
The game had some unusual plays throughout the game and the unusual plays started in the first inning. A double-error allowed center fielder Ashford Fulmer to touch every base to score the first run of the game. Fulmer forced the Tri-City right fielder to commit an error and a throwing error by the second baseman allowed Fulmer to advance another base to score.
The score remained 1-0 until the sixth inning when Fulmer hit a laser to left field and left fielder Gio Brusa hit a triple in the next at bat to score Fulmer, the second run of the game for the center fielder.
The Volcanoes did not commit an error, playing stellar defense to go along with their strong pitching performance.
The Volcanoes will have a chance for the series win Tuesday night, August 23, at Gesa Stadium. Garrett Williams will take the mound for the 'Canoes in another 7:15 p.m. start in Tri-City.
