January 23, 2006 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Rockford Lightning News Release
The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Rockford Lightning guard
Marlon Parmer has been named the CBA Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 16
through Jan. 22. Parmer became the second Lightning player to earn the award this
season after Roger Powell Jr. picked up the honor the week of Dec. 12 through Dec.
18.
Parmer ended the week with 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 11.0 assists and 2.5 steals
per game for Rockford, who went 2-0 last week after defeating Idaho (137-116) on
Jan. 19 and Michigan (120-99) on Jan. 21. Against Idaho, Parmer dished out a
career-high 17 assists, second-most in the CBA this season. He also contributed 14
points, six rebounds, and a steal. Against Michigan, Parmer tallied 32 points to go
with six rebounds, five assists and four steals. His 32-point effort was his fourth
30-or-more showing this season, including a career-high 45 points on Jan. 12 vs.
Dakota.
Also last week, Parmer competed for the Eastern Conference in the CBA All-Star
Classic in Boise, Idaho. Parmer, who was making his second consecutive appearance
in the All-Star game, finished with 10 points and a team-high 11 assists in 32
minutes of action for the Eastern squad.
This marks the first time this season and the third time in his CBA career that
Parmer has been named the league's Player of the Week. He was honored twice last
season while with the Yakama Sun Kings.
"First off, I want to give thanks and credit to God for this," said Parmer. "I want
to thank my teammates and of course Coach Daleo for coming up with a good game plan
that allows us to keep playing as a team and winning games."
"Marlon deserves this," said Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo, "He does everything
you ask whether it's distributing the ball or taking care of it in crunch time. He
is a great kid and we are happy to have him here in Rockford." Parmer has led the
Lightning in assists in 23 of the 27 games this season and ties Roger Powell for the
team lead with 7 double doubles this season. The 6-foot-3, 187-pound guard out of
Kentucky Weslyan is just one of two players in the CBA to record a triple double
this season (Dec. 18 vs. Michigan). He is among the CBA's leaders in scoring (4th,
22.3 ppg.), assists (2nd, 7.6 pg.), and steals (8th, 1.7 pg.).
Rockford has won three in a row and leads the Eastern Conference with a league-best 19-8 record, along with a 4.3 quarter-point average. The team will return home to the MetroCentre this week where they have a 9 game winning streak and have won 11 of 13 games this season to take on the Sioux Falls Skyforce (Wed. 01/25) and Gary Steelheads (Thurs. 01/26). Tip off for both games is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. at the MetroCentre; kids tickets are half price. Group tickets can be purchased through the Lightning Office by calling 815-874-4232. Single game tickets can be purchased through the MetroCentre Box Office by calling 815-968-5222 or online at www.centreevents.com.
