Marlins' Skid Reaches Four Games

Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins dropped their fourth consecutive game as the Peninsula Pilots won an offensive battle by a final score of 10-7 at Big Rock Stadium on Saturday night in Morehead City.

The Pilots jumped out to a 7-0 lead highlighted by a two-run blast over the left field wall off the bat of Bill Cullen in the top half of the second inning. Peninsula added one more run in the third, two in the fourth, and two more in the sixth to complete the 7-0 early lead.

The Marlins offense awoke with a big sixth inning. Jacob Hoyle started the rally with an RBI single with the bases loaded and nobody out. Hayden Jones then scored Dylan Brown from third on a sacrifice fly to right field and Sam Ott added an RBI single. Hoyle came around to score on a fielder's choice to the second baseman with one out in the inning. Morehead City would add three more runs in the eighth on an RB double off the bat of Zach Arnold and a Dalton Britt RBI single. However, Peninsula extended its lead to 10-7 with one run in the seventh and two in the eighth.

The Marlins failed to get any closer as Ryan Cook came on to shut down the Marlins in the home half of the ninth. Jared Lyons was terrific on the bump for the Pilots as he tossed five shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five en route to his fifth win of the season. Ben Fuchs was credited with the loss falling to 3-3 on the season. Cook earned his eighth save of the season as he tossed a scoreless home half of the ninth to ensure the 10-7 Pilots Victory.

The Morehead City Marlins are off on Sunday. The team hits the road on Monday night as they play Peninsula yet again. However, Monday night's game will be at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, V.A.. The Marlins return to Big Rock Stadium for Bark in the Park night on Tuesday night as they host the Edenton Steamers. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM.
