Morehead City Marlins News Release

Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins lost another heart-wrenching, one-run game on Friday night, nearly coming back from an eight run deficit. Down 8-0 after three innings, the Marlins competed down to the very last at-bat and lost by one, 8-7. Morehead City drops to an overall record of 8-9 following their third straight loss-all three by just one run.

Simply put, the Marlins just kept fighting. Offensively, the team piled up 16 hits but, unfortunately, left ten runners stranded on base. Six Marlins obtained multiple hits in the game, including Sam Kimmel, who was 3-for-5 from the plate and drove in four runs.

The Marlins play at home again on Saturday, as the Florence RedWolves visit Morehead City for the first time this season. It will be WRNS Night at Big Rock Stadium, as well as The Boys and Girls Clubs of Coastal Carolina Night. The official start time is set for 7:05 p.m., and gates will open at 6 o'clock.

The Morehead City Marlins are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season in 2011, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
