JACKSON, TENN. - Despite a season-best crowd of 5,345 at The Ballpark at Jackson, the Jackson Generals dropped a 7-3 decision on Wednesday to the Mississippi Braves. A three-hit afternoon for Mississippi Braves first baseman Tyler Marlette swung Wednesday's game in Mississippi's favor, allowing the M-Braves (18-22) to take the series from the Generals (21-18), three games to two.

Even with a good effort from starter Jon Duplantier, the Generals were not able to keep things in hand. Duplantier finished five innings while allowing a pair of runs, striking out seven in the process. The Generals bullpen allowed five runs in the final three innings, with Joel Payamps (3-1, 2.10 ERA) giving up the first of those five runs on a Marlette solo home run and consequently being credited with the loss. It's the second time in two series against Mississippi that Jackson has dropped the rubber game.

Offensively, the Generals got a two-run, opposite field home run from Galli Cribbs to take an early 2-1 lead, but contributions were scarce beyond Cribbs. Three errors and a 1-for-3 mark with runners in scoring position hurt Jackson's chances, as the Generals dropped their fourth consecutive series. They remain in second place in the Southern League's North Division, three and a half games behind Chattanooga.

TOP PERFORMERS - Generals

1B Tyler Marlette - 3-4, R, 2 RBI, HR, 2 2B

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

TOP 4: After a groundout and a strikeout, Duplantier walks Daniel Lockhart on a full-count pitch, bringing Marlette to the plate. Marlette creases a double to center field with two strikes, bringing Lockhart all the way around to score and tie the game. Marlette doubled twice in the contest against Duplantier, raising his average to .238 by the end of the game.

SCORE: JXN 2, MIS 2

TOP 8: Kirby Bellow walks Michael Reed from a full count, and Mississippi's Luis Valenzuela lays down a perfect bunt to move Reed up a base and reach first safely. Tyler Neslony bunts right after Valenzuela, but this time Bellow fields it and shuttles the ball quickly to third base, with the throw beating Reed for the forceout. However, after putting Jonathan Morales in a two-strike count, Bellow allows Morales to double to center field, with the ball kicking awkwardly off the arm of Daniel Robertson as he goes to field it. The misplay allows both runners to score, with Morales ending up at second base. Alay Lago promptly follows by dumping the first pitch he sees down the right field line for a run-scoring base hit that effectively puts the game beyond reach.

SCORE: MIS 6, JXN 2
