Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. - A streak of five straight innings with runs scored helped the Mississippi Braves beat the Jackson Generals, 10-7, Wednesday at The Ballpark at Jackson. The M-Braves (17-22) managed to push their series with the Generals to a fifth-game rubber match for the second time in 2018, buoyed by a 6-for-14 effort with runners in scoring position.
After a three-batter first inning, Generals starter Ryan Atkinson (1-4, 5.28 ERA) ran into trouble in the second, allowing the M-Braves to claim the lead on pair of hits and a hit batsman. The right-hander got burned by a poorly executed fielder's choice in the second inning, but the third unraveled on a pair of consecutive triples and a run-scoring wild pitch. Atkinson's six earned runs allowed were a season high, and the Generals' bullpen did not fare much better, ceding four more runs over the final five frames.
Held down through the first three frames, the Jackson offense awoke in the fourth inning with three runs that cut the deficit in half. The Generals (21-17) were not able to sustain their production thereafter, leaving a season-high 13 men on base despite going 4-for-16 with men in scoring position. Marcus Littlewood homered for the first time as a Generals since 2015, and Jose Queliz picked up a pinch-hit two-run double in place of Atkinson in the bottom of the fourth. The Generals remain in second place in the Southern League's North Division, 2.5 games behind Chattanooga.
