Marco Delgado Called-Up to United States U-20 Youth National Team

CARSON, Calif. (Friday, Nov. 8, 2013) - Chivas USA midfielder Marco Delgado has been called up to the United States U20 National Team for its ten-day international training camp in Italy, the Federation announced today. The squad led by Head Coach Tab Ramos will be in camp from November 10-20 in Verona, Italy.

The 10-day camp will serve as preparation as the squad begins its journey to the upcoming U-20 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers scheduled for next year. For the Red-and-White player, this is the first time that Delgado gets called up to the U20 squad; the Glendora native had previously been a part of the national U18 squad.

"I feel excited," Delgado said about his call-up. "I'm really excited because there's actually a big tournament [ahead], the World Cup. And that's my goal, to get there."

The U.S. will play against Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona's academy team Hellas Verona Primavera, Iran's U-20 National Team and a yet-to-be-confirmed opponent in the 10-day tour.

The international training camp will be an opportunity for Delgado to return to action as the youngster underwent surgery due to a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee in late September. Before then, Delgado had become a regular member of the Red-and-White First Team, playing in 16 matches (13 starts) and recording his first assist in Major League Soccer.

"I feel like I'm good to go now," Delgado said about his injury. "I've been working a lot with the trainers and they've been working with me. Whenever the team is going to have a day off, I'm here at the stadium still working."

Delgado will miss Chivas USA's friendly match against FC Tucson scheduled for next Friday, Nov. 15, at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona, which will mark the end to the Red-and-White's season. For all the latest updates on the club, follow us on Twitter: @cdchivasusa .
