Bradenton Marauders News Release

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Marauders rode an early power surge and a pair of five-run rallies to their fifth straight win Friday night in a 15-9 triumph over the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Publix Field.

The win secured a series victory for the Marauders (8-5, 37-41) and brought the team within two games of first place in the West Division.

Bradenton matched its season-high with 15 hits in the game, while the Flying Tigers (6-6, 38-40) committed nine errors, the most by any Marauders opponent this season.

Tsung-Che Cheng and Rodolfo Nolasco hit solo homers in the first for an early Bradenton lead, and after a Manuel Sequera solo homer in the home half brought the score to 2-1, the Marauders punched back with three runs in the third on a Juan Jerez two-run triple and a Norkis Marcos RBI-single, knocking Tigers starter Marco Jimenez from the game.

After three respectable innings of work, Marauders starter Po-Yu Chen struggled in the fourth, walking the bases full with one out. Chen balked Lazaro Benitez home then allowed a two-run triple to Frank Veliz, dwindling Bradenton's lead to 5-4. Johan Montero entered in relief and allowed a game-tying RBI-double to Izaac Pacheco, who later raced home from third with the go-ahead run when an attempted steal of second drew a throw from catcher Wyatt Hendrie. The inning ended with a 6-5 Lakeland lead after ten batters stepped to the plate.

Undeterred, the Marauders assembled a five-run rally of their own the next half-inning, retaking the lead. Five hits and two Lakeland errors-the home team's fourth and fifth of the game-brought Bradenton back in front, 10-6, off reliever Michael Bienlien.

In the seventh, the Marauders padded their lead with another five-run inning featuring a two-run single by Deivis Nadal, a Maikol Escotto two-run double, and two more Tigers errors. The score stood at 15-6 Bradenton after seven innings.

After an inning and a third scoreless by Marauders reliever Carlos Lomeli, right-hander Sebastian Rodriguez scuffled in the eighth, surrendering three runs on four hits and a walk. With the bases loaded and two out, Rodriguez gave way to left-hander Yoelvis Reyes, who set down Mike Rothenberg with an inning-ending strikeout.

The Marauders, in turn, left the bases loaded without plating a run in the top of the ninth, and Reyes finished the game in the bottom half, working around an infield single and an error.

Each of the starting nine for the Marauders recorded a hit in the game. Escotto led the team with three hits, while five total players turned in multi-hit games and five collected multiple RBI, including three each by Escotto and Nadal.

For Lakeland, Sequera, Schultz, and Veliz collected three hits each. Of the pitching staff's 15 runs allowed, eight were unearned as a result of the team's nine errors.

The series continues Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at Publix Field. Both teams have yet to announce their starting pitchers.
