Bradenton Marauders News Release
Clearwater, Fla. - The Marauders (20-15) took on Clearwater on Wednesday afternoon in game two of the series at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers would once again jump out to a sizeable early advantage before a late Marauders rally tied the game in the ninth before a solo home run ended the ball game and gave the Threshers their 14th straight home victory by a 5-4 final score.
The Threshers got a solo blast from Marauders starter Owen Kellington in the first inning and then added two more in the second inning. Though giving up three earned runs, Kellington backed himself well in the outing finishing with seven of the nine outs he recorded as K's.
Clearwater gained another run in the fourth off of a balk to make it 4-0. The 'Ders then turned to Darvin Garcia out of the bullpen, who would throw 2.1 perfect innings, striking out five of the seven men he faced in his stint on the hill.
The Marauders' bats came to life in the seventh inning when Nick Cimillo hit a 400+ foot home run to left to cut the deficit to three runs with two innings to go. Termarr Johnson doubled down the line to right in the eighth inning to bring in a pair of men to score and bring Bradenton within just one run heading into the final frame.
Julian Bosnic was crucial to the Marauders' defensive efforts late in the game, tossing a scoreless seventh and eighth to give the bats a chance to roar back into the game.
In the ninth, Nick Cimillo dropped a line drive single into left-center field to put the tying run on in the form of Rayber Romero, who replaced Cimillo on the base paths. After a Deivis Nadal sac bunt that moved Romero into scoring position Alexander Mojica came to the plate; after working the count full, Mojica would strike out to bring Jesus Castillo to the dish representing the last chance in the game for Bradenton.
After getting ahead in the count, Castillo floated a ball into shallow centerfield that touched down to bring Romero around the score and tie the game at 4-4.
In the home ninth, Yunior Thibo got a first-pitch flyout but would give up a game-ending home run to Bryan Rincon to give Clearwater the 5-4 win in walk-off fashion.
The Marauders will look to fight back in the series on Thursday night with Alessandro Ercoalani on the mound. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 at BayCare Ballpark.
