Marauders Down Miracle, 4-2, in Series Opener

FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 4, 2014) - The Bradenton Marauders knocked off the Fort Myers Miracle, 4-2, in the first of a three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Hammond Stadium.

The Marauders built a 4-0 lead over the first six and a half innings by pushing across one run in each of the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Miracle starter Jason Wheeler was charged with three runs, two earned, in 5.2 innings. Wheeler (2-2) allowed seven hits with a walk, five strikeouts and took the loss.

Bradenton racked up 10 hits off Miracle pitching. Adam Frazier, Walker Gourley, Eric Wood and Max Moroff each picked up a RBI for the Marauders.

Down 4-0, the Miracle scored two runs in the seventh off Marauder reliever Thomas Harlan. With one out, Max Kepler reached on a throwing error by Jin-De Jhang after a strikeout that bounced in the dirt. Stuart Turner then doubled through the right side to bring in Kepler and get Fort Myers on board.

A Levi Michael ground out moved Turner to third base. Jorge Polanco beat out an infield single to short and Turner scored to cut the Bradenton lead, 4-2.

Harlan settled down to pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth innings and close out the game to record his first save of the season.

Bradenton starter Jason Creasy earned the win for the Marauders. Creasy (2-1) went 5.2 scoreless innings with two hits and six strikeouts.

The Miracle (16-14) host the Marauders (16-14) in the second of a three-game series on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.
