Byron Buxton off the DL, Joins Miracle

FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 4, 2014) - Byron Buxton, the 2013 Baseball America and Topps Minor League Player of the Year, has been activated from the 7-Day Disabled List and will join the Miracle at Hammond Stadium for today's 4:05 p.m. game against the Bradenton Marauders.

Buxton, 20, suffered a wrist injury during Spring Training. Last year, Byron played in 125 games split between Class-A Cedar Rapids and Advanced-A Fort Myers. Combined, Buxton hit .334 with 19 doubles, 18 triples and 12 home runs while driving in 77 runs. The native of Baxley, Ga. scored 109 runs and stole 55 bases.

In 57 games with the Miracle, Buxton posted a .326 average with four doubles, eight triples and four homers. Byron knocked in 22 and scored 57 runs.

Appearing in the MLB Futures Game during the MLB All-Star weekend at Citi Field in New York, N.Y., Byron collected All-Star honors from the Midwest League, MiLB.com, Baseball America and Topps. Buxton received an invitation to Twins Spring Training this past March.

According to Baseball America, Buxton is the best hitter for average, fastest baserunner, best athlete, best defensive outfielder and has the best outfield arm in the Twins minor league system.
