Bradenton Marauders News Release

CLEARWATER, FL - The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, slogged through an hour and a half rain delay Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Clearwater Threshers 6-1 at Bright House Field.

Bradenton jumped out early against Clearwater starter Brody Colvin, scoring just three batters in. Robbie Grossman led off with a walk, stole second and took third on a groundout. Ramon Cabrera then popped up into foul ground in shallow leftfield. Grossman tagged and just beat Darin Ruf's throw home for a 1-0 lead.

The Marauders added another run in each the fourth and fifth innings. Elevys Gonzalez hit a ground rule double in the fourth ahead of a Carlos Paulino RBI single, his 20th knocked in on the season. Grossman scored again in the fifth, his 95th run of the season, on a single by Cabrera. The lead was 3-1.

Clearwater's offense came as starter Nathan Baker tired in the fifth. Untouchable in the first four frames, Baker allowed a one-out double to Jeremy Barnes in the fifth, struck out Jonathan Singleton and then allowed a single to Ruf to score the run. Baker finished allowing just one run in five innings for the win.

Rain interrupted the game in the middle of the sixth inning, postponing play for one hour and 32 minutes. Bradenton emerged with continued fervor after the timeout, scoring in the eighth and ninth innings to go ahead 5-1 and 6-1 respectively. Aaron Baker belted his 15th homer of the season to open the eighth while Paulino doubled in another run. Evan Chambers singled home Adalberto Santos in the ninth.

The Marauders and Threshers finalize their four game series Thursday at 6:30 with radio coverage at 6:15 on 1280-AM WTMY. For more information visit BradentonMarauders.com.
