Mantei en Route to Brandon After Flames Camp

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
With their offense rolling along through the end of the preseason and opening weekend, the Brandon Wheat Kings got a welcome boost to their defensive game today.
Reigning defenseman of the year Quinn Mantei is being returned to the team after training camp with the Calgary Flames. The Wheat Kings hope to have him available for Wednesday night's action against the Prince Albert Raiders.
"We just see a guy that's steadily climbing, getting better and better," said head coach and GM Marty Murray. "I thought he was exceptional the last half of last year. You could see the confidence, and I think he put a lot of time into his training this summer."
Mantei posted 25 points in 67 games last season while also playing stout defensive hockey with a physical edge. He led all Wheat Kings defensemen in plus/minus at plus 10.
"I think he's going to be at another level even from what we saw last year," Murray said. "He'll be the anchor of our back end and play in all situations. It's nice to get a guy like that back."
Mantei was originally invited to the Flames' development camp during the summer, then invited back to play with their prospects at the Penticton tournament. From there, he earned an invitation to their main camp.
Mantei's return to the Wheat Kings, along with Brett Hyland rejoining the team, means only forward Nate Danielson and goaltender Carson Bjarnason are still away from the team in the NHL.
The Wheat Kings are next in action on Wednesday, September 27 against the Prince Albert Raiders.
