Bjarnason Signs NHL Entry Level Deal with Flyers

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
After being selected 51st overall in the NHL draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, joining the Flyers for their rookie camp, and attending his first full training camp with the team, Brandon Wheat Kings goaltender Carson Bjarnason has reached another important moment in his journey to the NHL.
The 18-year-old Carberry native has signed his entry level contract with the Flyers, the team announced today. Bjarnason becomes the second Wheat King drafted in 2023 to sign his entry level contract after forward Nate Danielson.
"It's a huge accomplishment for him," said Wheat Kings head coach and GM Marty Murray. "I think we all grew up wanting a chance to play in the NHL and this is another step for him. Getting drafted and then being signed is the next phase."
Bjarnason earned the lion's share of the Wheat Kings' starts in 2022-23. He started 47 games with a 3.08 GAA and a .900 save percentage. He also won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the World Under-18 Championships.
"As a 17-year-old, there's not too many that are unanimous number one starters like he was," said Murray. "He took that opportunity and ran with it. It was great to see him get rewarded with the draft and now with the signing."
During the Flyers camp, Bjarnason has been skating alongside Flyers starter and former WHLer Carter Hart.
Bjarnason and forward Nate Danielson are the only two Wheat Kings who are still away from the team at NHL camps.
The Wheat Kings are next in action on Wednesday, September 27 against the Prince Albert Raiders.
