Manitoba Drops Decision to Rockford

The Manitoba Moose (19-27-3-3) and Rockford IceHogs (20-24-8-3) met at MTS Centre to open a two-game set on Tuesday night. The visitors got off to a quick start when Brandon Mashinter opened the scoring on the powerplay 9:45 into the game. Rockford added to its lead 2:49 later when Mashinter knocked in an Erik Gustafsson rebound for his second of the period and a 2-0 IceHogs lead after the first. The Moose had three chances on the powerplay, but weren't able to beat Jeff Glass on any of their 10 shots in the period. The Moose bounced back in the second to even the contest, 2-2, before the frame was two minutes old. A tick-tac-toe passing play starting with Jack Roslovic, going through JC Lipon and cross-crease to Nolan Zajac got the Moose on the board with the Winnipeg native's first AHL marker. Just 33 seconds later, Quinton Howden showed patience to open up Scott Glennie for the tying goal, his seventh of the campaign. The Manitoba penalty kill came up with a big stop late in the period, turning away a minute of five-on-three powerplay time for the IceHogs. Eric Comrie made 10 saves to help the Moose to a 2-2 score after 40 minutes. Rockford regained its lead 3:30 into the third. Kyle Baun's wrister from the top of the slot was redirected on its way into the goal to put the IceHogs in front 3-2. The lead extended to 4-2 when Martin Lundberg gathered up a loose puck in his own end, raced into the Moose zone and cut across the slot before going top corner for the goal five minutes into the period. Manitoba pulled back within one with 5:28 to go. Brian Strait fought off a check coming into the Rockford zone shorthanded and whipped a shot along the ice and past Glass. The Moose couldn't muster a tying goal as Rockford came away with the 4-3 victory. Quick Hits
