BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - The Brampton Beast (0-2-0-0) got goals from Jordan Boucher and Brandon Marino but dropped a close decision to the visiting Manchester Monarchs (1-1-0-0) by a final score of 4-2 at the Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon.

It was Brampton's home opener and the Beast came out flying but were unable to solve Monarchs goalie Charles Williams in the first. The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to Sam Kurker's first of the year at 10:13.

Manchester added to their lead in the second, with a power-player marker off the stick of David Kolomatis at 8:23.

The Beast would respond shortly after on a power-play of their own. A great one-time effort from Jordan Boucher gave the Montreal native his second goal in as many games to pull the Beast back into the game.

Manchester would score once again and make it 3-1 with a goal from forward Joel Lowry at 15:45 of the second period. That tally would close out the second period scoring and sent the Beast to the locker room down by a pair.

Entering the final period, the Beast knew they had to put a charge into the building. They did exactly that when captain Brandon Marino tipped a Matt Petgrave point shot past the aforementioned Williams, giving Marino his second of the campaign at 15:30.

Petgrave and Reggie Traccitto drew the assists on the second Beast goal. It was the first point of the season for both skaters.

Brampton would continue to press as the game wound down. With Swedish goaltender Marcus Hogberg pulled in favour of an extra attacker, the Monarchs would ice the game with an empty net tally from Kevin Morris to make it 4-2.

Hogberg, making his first start of his ECHL career, was excellent in goal and made 29 saves in the loss. He was also named one of the games three stars.

Brampton will get a chance at some quick revenge as the two teams meet once again at the Powerade Centre on Tuesday, October 17th.
