Colorado Mammoth News Release

DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth announced today that it has signed veteran defenseman Steve Toll to a one-year deal. To make room on the roster, the Mammoth released defenseman Shayne Bennett.

"Steve is a winner in this league has tremendous leadership skills that he will instill in our younger players," said Mammoth Head Coach Bob Hamley. "Despite his age, he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down."

The 13-year veteran spent the past five-plus seasons with Mammoth off-season acquisition John Grant Jr. in Rochester, and scooped up an astounding 674 loose balls (10.53 per-game average) since the start of the 2007 season. Known for his blistering speed and knack for always knowing where the ball will bounce, Toll has recorded 100-plus loose balls nine of the past ten years.

"Having a hustle guy like [Steve] who's fast is invaluable in the National Lacrosse League," said Steve Govett, Mammoth president and general manager. "We expect him to make an immediate impact in the locker room and on the field."

Toll has 383 career regular-season points and is one goal shy of 150.

The Mammoth has also signed second-year transition player Brad Richardson and rookie forward Connor Martin to the team's practice squad.

Colorado opens the 2011 season at Pepsi Center on Saturday, January 8th against the defending NLL champion Washington Stealth. Tickets for all Mammoth home games are on sale now.
