Boston Blazers Name Matt Sawyer as Head Coach

Boston, MA - Boston Blazers President and General Manager Doug Reffue announced today the hire of Matt Sawyer as the team's new head coach.

Sawyer joins Boston from the Toronto Rock where he served as their assistant coach and helped the team win the 2005 Champions Cup. Sawyer is also the head coach of the Orangeville Jr. A Northmen of the Ontario Lacrosse Association with whom he earned Coach of the Year honors in 2008 and led his team to three consecutive league championships and two Minto Cups.

"We are thrilled to announce Matt as the next head coach of the Boston Blazers franchise. Matt has been around box lacrosse his entire life and he's a proven winner," said Reffue. "He is known as a master lacrosse strategist and motivator, has coached multiple national championship teams at the junior level in Canada, and has been a valuable assistant coach in the NLL for several years. We are excited to watch him lead the Blazers to new heights."

Sawyer expressed his enthusiasm on his recent naming saying, "My family and I are extremely excited about the opportunity of joining the Boston Blazers organization. I look forward to the start and challenge of the 2011 season with the talented andexciting team that Boston has put together."

The Blazers kick off their season on the road against the Philadelphia Wings at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, January 8 at 7:30pm. Boston hosts the Edmonton Rush in their home opener on Saturday, January 15 at 7:30pm at the TD Garden.
